LOMI LOMI MASSAGE MAUI

Lomi Lomi Massage in Maui

Lomilomi is a word in the Hawaiian and Samoan languages. Lomi means “to knead, to rub, or soothe. To work in and out, as the paws of a contented cat. It may also mean, “to take or shift” as in “the sacred shift within you that is inspired by the healing kahuna…” said twice “lomilomi” for emphasis.

Many traditional taught lomilomi practitioners find it virtually impossible to work in a corporate spa setting as the practitioner needs to feel free to let the lomilomi flow and not feel constricted to rules and time frames that limit a session in a corporate setting. Lomilomi has more of a sacred rhythm and feel to it. I myself love to be a mobile service provider as it gives me the freedom to travel to my clients and see amazing, beautiful places in Maui, I provide my services at the beach site in Kihei, as well and I also have an office that’s very peaceful, clean and comfortable in Kihei. I can pretty much accommodate any of my client’s needs.

Among some practitioners, music is provided and can be used to choreograph the flow of lomilomi, especially when sounds of surf are in the soundtrack.

Lomilomi is done with a warm Aloha feeling (love for self and others) is infused with long continuous rhythmic strokes. Relieves stress and tension while improving the flow of blood and lymph fluid. It’s generally a medium to firm pressure.

Prayer can be done throughout the session to bring in light and healing to the person on the table.

Lomilomi goes far beyond massage, however, it also reflects the connection we have with the land (“Aina), the spirit guides or ancestors and the breath of life(aloha).

Lomilomi, sometimes called Hawaiian massage, is beneficial for many ailments and to increase spiritual energy and personal power (mana). The nurturing strokes are relaxing; however, one soon learns this work is therapeutic on all levels.

Lomilomi masters, describe this Hawaiian healing art form as the basis of this spiritual work is the “embodiment of reverence of life, wisdom, knowledge and compassion.

The lomilomi strokes are done with the hands and forearms and are long and sweeping, much like long rolling waves traveling through the body, giving them the name, long boards and short boards strokes.

Lomilomi also includes range-of-motion work, deep tissue techniques and, most importantly, the full presence of loving touch. Every cell is blessed to create balance (Lokahi). The nervous system is encouraged to slow down, thereby creating space for techniques to be received rather than pushing through a blockage in the muscle tissue.

Lomilomi massage on the abdomen is always emphasized in traditional teachings, in order to help the elimination process and improve the energetic function of the organs. Lomilomi may also include a detoxification program and the use of herbal remedies prior to the actual work.
